Northwestern Polytechnical University Branch Campus in Kazakhstan ("NPU Branch campus" for short) was officially opened on October 12, 2023. The Branch campus was jointly established with Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU). Located in Xi'an, Shaanxi, Northwestern Polytechnical University is a top Chinese engineering university that cultivates talents in aeronautics, astronautics and marine technology engineering. As a national "First-Class" university (A class), NPU ranked 133 according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities. KazNU is the largest and best comprehensive university in Kazakhstan, according to 2025 QS World University Rankings it ranked 163.

        I. Introduction to Program

       Program Level: Master.

      Majors: Material Science, Information and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Technology.

       Registration time: September of each year.

       Duration: 2 years (1+1).

       General information: In the first year, students will need to complete all the courses in KazNU. In the second year, students will come to NPU to complete the MS research. Students could get 2 diplomas from each university upon fulfillment of the graduation requirements of both universities.  

       II. Application

       NPU President Scholarship (Nationality: Kazakhstan)

        Application Period:

        Mar. 10, 2025—August 15, 2025

        Admission Requirements:

       1. Good physical and mental health. Non-Chinese citizens.

       2. Applicants should be under 30 by September 1st, 2025.

       3. Academic Requirement: As of September 1st, 2025, applicants must hold a bachelor's degree.

       4. Learning Ability

        Applicants should have good learning ability and academic performance.

       5. Language Requirement

       Applicant should have good English skills.

 Application and Selection Procedure:

Step 1 - Participation in Kazakhstan State Grant Examination.

Choose the following group programs:

M101(Материаловение и технолония)，M096(Коммуникации и коммуникационные технологии)， M094(Информационные технологии)

Step 2 – In case that not getting national grant but with the score 75 out of 150 for Kazakhstan State Grant Examination, you could apply for NPU President Scholarship.（http://admission.nwpu.edu.cn/）

Step 3 - Interview

Step 4 –Issuing admission result

III. Application documents

1. A copy of the personal information page of your valid passport.

2. A copy of undergraduate diploma.

3. Transcripts for each semester/academic year during undergraduate period.

4. Results of Kazakhstan State Grant Examination.

IV. Fees

Tuition: 1st Year：Around 1400000 Tenge；2nd Year：30000 RMB

Accommodation: 1st Year: Charged by KazNU or Live off-campus (Self-pay); 2nd Year: 7200 RMB

V. Scholarship

1．First level: exempt from tuition fee, accommodation fee, and living allowances are provided: 2000RMB/month*12months

2．Second level: exempt from tuition fee.

3．Third level: exempt from 50% tuition fee.

VI. Process supervision

1. The whole process of selection and admission will be strictly regulated by the university and follows the principle of openness, fairness, and academic integrity.

2. Any dishonesty that happened during the selection and admission process will lead to admission or studentship cancellation.

3. Disposition of other violations will be per the relevant provisions issued by the Ministry of Education of China.
